Remind myself that it's not selfish to make time to exercise, and things that need to get done will get done, even if I spend an hour on "frivolous" things like exercise.

I was tracking my exercise fairly religiously for a while, but I've fallen out of the habit for a variety of reasons. One was that I was tracking in a small notebook in my purse and then compiling them later on my LJ, but that notebook was falling apart so badly that it was frustrating to try to use it.

I also just had a kind of "don't wanna!" tantrum about tracking. I've still been exercising at least 3 days a week, more often 4-5, but didn't track except in my head for several months. But now, I've started tracking over at the [livejournal.com profile] fathletes community instead. They have a Monday morning training thread where you state your goals for the coming week and/or talk about your successes or challenges of the previous week. I'm finding that works fine for me.

For anybody curious, here's my activity from Mon-Sun last week:

I was doing really well on my fitness challenge to myself: to do at least one sun salutation every day for 30 days. I kept it up for just shy of 3 weeks, and then I blew it a couple days after Christmas. I'm glad I at least kept it up through the most stressful part of the holidays though- I think it helped physically and mentally. I'm going to start over in the new year and try to do one sun salutation every day for the entire month of January.

If you bother to read my activity updates, you'll see that I spend a lot of time beating myself up for not doing stretches. Stretching is important for a variety of reasons, perhaps the most important is that therapeutic stretches help a lot with some of my chronic pain issues, IF I do them on a regular basis.

Since I'm seeing this pattern, I'm challenging myself to do one - just one - sun salutation every day for 30 days. I'm on day 6 today, and so far so good. They're a pretty good all-over body stretch, so even if I don't hit all my physical therapy stretches in a given day, I'll at least have done that much. Plus, daily yoga seems like a good idea during the stress that sometimes accompanies the holidays.

We'll see how the rest of the 30 days goes...

I kind of fell off the wagon on vacation- not that I haven't been exercising, but I haven't been tracking very closely. Even while on vacation, we walked quite a bit, and we went to the local YMCA to do weights and cardio  one day while in Virginia. I'm sure I got some kind of exercise at least 4 out of 7 days for the last few weeks, but I can't recreate every day, so I'm just going to start over as of mid-October.

The last few weeks, I've been making the mistake of not tracking my activity at least every other day. If I wait longer to track it in my little notebook, I have to wrack my brains to remember what I did for the last week or so. But, to the best of my recollection...

Total days active: 7 out of 7
Total days did full body stretch: 4 out of 7

Comments:
A lot of "lifestyle" activity this week, including painting the guest bedroom and walking to/from work, but also some more intense gym workouts. Still would like to get stretching to be 6/7 or 7/7 but some weeks are better than others.

Total days did full body stretch: 2 out of 7

Again, not so good with the stretching. One of my other "self-care" activities is eating more than the recommended 5-a-day of fruits and veg, and that's been really easy lately with how much produce we've had around the house. Gotta love that about summer!
