Do you use some version of the word "hinky/hinkety/hinckty"? If so, what is the definition?

I use this word and it tends to make [livejournal.com profile] dionysus1999 laugh. I think the version I use and the definition I'm thinking of when I use it is different than the way other people use it and spell it, and a browse through http://www.urbandictionary.com confirms that.

hincty:

hinky:

hinkity:

I'll note which version I used and what my definition is in the comments.

I'd use or at least recognise it, mostly in accordance with hinky definition 1 from your links (i.e. 'something indefinably odd/suspicious').

I usually use it in regard to the cat acting weird and suspicious but pronounce it "HINK-tee". Not sure where I even got it since I don't think any of my relatives use it.

I started using "hinky" after seeing some silly scene about it on a cop show (NYPD Blue?).

"I don't know boss, it seems kinda hinky."
"Hinky? What the hell does that mean?"
"Hinky. I don't know...hinky, you know? Not right."
. . . typical lieutenant grumbling about wasting time and money on a case that's already been put down.

I thought it was a funny word.

I think it didn't let me post because Buldan posted at the same instant. Meanie!!

I use hinky with computers, because it seems totally inappropriate. "Yeah, I'm looking into that problem, so far there's something hinky in the logs."

That's about how I use it.

I use it (hinky) because Bruce Schneier introduced me to the concept (http://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2005/07/profiling.html). It's just a fun word to say. :)

I use "hinky" to mean "something wrong or not quite right," usually in a vague or poorly defined way: "This computer is acting a little hinky."
