Monism... and Stifler's Mom

I woke up this morning thinking about monism.

Well, and also Jennifer Coolidge.

But my dream life sounds so much more intellekshual if I only mention the monism part, right?

Most of my thought on monism has been w.r.t. the Four Extremes (monism, dualism, nihilism and eternalism). I've heard it said that the path is one that skirts all of these, but incorporates none of them.

As i've developed my philosophies of late, this has actually been quite a guide.

In my dream, I was thinking about the ancients who believed the entire world was only made of four substances (air, fire, water, earth), and I was thinking, "If you're going to reduce it that far, why not just go with ONE and be a monist?"

I really have no idea where that came from.
