Our cat scratches on our bedroom door between 5:30 and 6 a.m. on such a regular basis that we sometimes refer to it as "The Kitty Alarm."

Not only did she wake us both up around 5:30 this morning, she interrupted a really hot sex dream that I couldn't get back to afterward.

*pout*

Follow the sex dream with actual sex if you can't get back to it?

I saw a standup act about that once (Norm MacDonald?). "You dream that you're in a pool with Christie Brinkley, but when you go back to sleep, you're shootin' pool, with David Brinkley."

Heh!

I'm not much of one for sex when I'm barely awake. I might have to pounce a certain someone after work tonight, though...

And that is one of the many reasons I don't have pets.

You could try what we do and put double-sided sticky tape on the door about where she scratches. It tends to discourage them and even if they do scratch it's quieter.

Hmmm... Interesting idea!

They get really frustrated by the tape. It's obviously an unpleasant sensation and they look so confused. :) Does the trick though!

Except for our one cat, Onyx... he sits there and licks the adhesive.

What about duct taping her to the wall? ;)

Wouldn't velcro be easier? Then you can just stick her there every night.

Trust me, we've considered it.

I don't know if this is your experience, but i've heard many times (and have personally experienced) the theory that in order to remember a dream, one usually must wake up during it.

So maybe you should be thanking the cat? :)

I do tend to remember them better when either: 1) I'm woken during it or 2) I sleep in later than usual and therefore am probably sleeping "lighter" at that point.

My cat would do the same thing to me when she was alive. :) Although I remember a few years ago I was having a great sex dream. Then right when it was going to get very very good, beep...beep...beep...my alarm went off. *sigh* Fortunately I got to play the dream out in real life, but it doesn't always work out that way.

That's why we gave up and just began leaving the door open at night. Our kitties *hate* closed doors, and will scratch and dig and cry whenever it's closed. They won't wait til morning.

We both have mild allergies to dander, so we're trying to keep the bedroom relatively kitty-free. We used to let her sleep on the bed with us, but she'd just wake us up about the same time with other shenanigans anyway.

We cut a hole in our bedroom door and installed a cat door.

And then had to take the flap out of it because one of the cats was too stupid to figure out how to use it.

We have a cat alarm as well. We swear Merlin can tell time because the alarm goes off the same time every morning. Unfortunately, it's about half an hour or so before Marie is supposed to get up for the day. The really bad thing is that the cat doesn't understand the concept of "weekends" as he gets *really* insistent to waking Marie up if she doesn't get out of bed by her normal weekday time on Saturday or Sunday.
