Bad poetry

This is a poem I wrote several years ago. I don't think it's all that great as poetry, but I stand by the sentiment.
The Value of Communication has been Overstated
The value of communication has been
Overstated.
If couples could just learn to communicate,
They wouldn't fight.
If I could just communicate more clearly with my boss,
I'd get a raise.
We're people on either side of a canyon,
Looking at a river below.
I say it's blue,
You say it's green.
"If only," I think,
"You could come over to
My side
And see it my way."
Communication helps us throw a plank
Across the divide
And you come over.
"Yep," you say.
"Still looks green to me."
We fight most often and
Most bitterly with the ones we love
Because we think that our relationships are like
Solid rock,
But they're more like
Swiss Cheese.
There's a certain look on a man's face
When he realizes--
"She knows what I mean.
It's not that she doesn't get it
Or that I need to explain
Another way.
She hears what I'm saying,
But she
Just
Doesn't
Agree."
There are always those
Gorges of difference
That can't be bridged.
We just have to wave at each other,
Call a truce
And agree to meet on
Common ground somewhere else.
