I also wondered about the science. I can pick apart big boo-boos in physics and biology and space science in movies, but I’m less sure about the earth science in this movie. Granted, none of them are geologists, but most of the scientists I've run into the last few years (teachers, my sister) have pretty much used The Core as a synonym for stupid movie science.
Office Space is very, very good, and I may never watch it again. It hits a bit too close to home.
