It's my impression from my reading that generally obesity isn't the causal factor in most conditions (maybe some joint issues, but that's about it) and isn't all that dangerous in and of itself. Instead, it seems that whatever causes a person to be obese-- whether that's heredity, a metabolic disorder, or poor nutrition and a sedentary lifestyle-- are what's really dangerous.
