The smell of American coffee gives me nausea. How much I can tolerate coffee shops is based on the other odors in the air, but most of them have enough other smells to make the coffee smell a dull static. Diners, on the other hand, can overwhelm me. I have to hold my breath around the coffee section in Trader Joe's, which is really annoying since they moved it so close to the fruit.
I like the smell of real coffee, i.e., the thick black stuff they serve in Europe by the thimbleful that Starbuck's tries (somewhat successfully) to emulate.
I don't consume caffeine in any form other than chocolate, where the molecules are complex enough that the caffeine doesn't bother me.
