sarahmichigan: (reading)
"Over Sea, Under Stone" by Susan Cooper. I read this as a child and recommended this whole series ("Over Sea" is the first in the "The Dark is Rising" series) to my husband and decided I was going to re-read it myself as well, this time as a book on CD. It's a fun book, and I liked that, while their uncle helps them out, the three main child characters solve most of the mystery themselves and get themselves out of a number of jams without adult help.

and

"Alan Turing: The Enigma" by Andrew Hodges. I've already nattered on about Turing and the book a couple times in my journal before. The book was a little dry in places, but I think that Hodges was just the man to do the job - he's a gay, English mathemetician and went to many of the same schools as Turing and was able to inteview many people who knew Turing personally. This was essential to writing the book, because so much of the work that Turing did was classified/top secret.

My full comments on both books here.
