What I've been reading
Aug. 21st, 2010 10:40 am"No Surrender: My Thirty Year War" by Hiroo Onoda, the tale of a Japanese guerrilla soldier stationed on a Philippine island who refused to believe WW II was over for decades. Probably going to be one of my favorite non-fiction reads of the year! If you're curious, this blog entry summarizes his story fairly succinctly.
and
"Brideshead Revisited" by Evelyn Waugh. I'd seen the made-for-TV serial with Jeremy Irons, which is scrumptious. The book is an interesting read, too, especially for how frankly the author writes about atheism, adultery, homosexuality, divorce, addiction and other topics not usually talked about in polite society.
My full comments on both books here.
