Bad planning but positive outcome
Apr. 30th, 2010 08:39 amI lost my wonderful Junonia swimsuit last year at Penguicon- I can only figure out that I must have left it in the hotel room. I loved that suit- it was comfortable and was made for serious lap swimming- not just a fashion bathing suit for toddling around in the shallow end.
I wanted a new suit, and have been perusing Junonia and Land's End Web sites looking for a good suit and free shipping. However, I realized if I wanted a new suit in time for Penguicon this weekend, ordering online was out and I'd have to shop at a brick-and-mortar store. I was not looking forward to this, as clothing shopping of any kind can be traumatic, especially bathing suits for the larger gal.
But, I called ahead to the women's department of the JC Penney in Canton, and the woman I spoke to said they had plus sized suits in stock. Now, this is still iffy- they could mean sizes 14-16, not 20+. However, I arrived, and they had a decent selection in sizes 18-22 and even a few nice ones in size 24. The second one I tried on was the one I bought, and it was 40 percent off, too boot! It's not just the usual black but actually has some colored strips and I think it's a fun bathing suit. It's not meant for serious lap-swimming, but I'm not a triathlete, so I think it'll work for water walking and the amount of lap swimming that I do (which is maybe 12-20 laps a couple times a month).
I'm not sure if it's just that one store or if all JCP's are having bathing suit sales, but plus-size ladies in the 18-24 size range: you actually have some off-the-rack options there! Yay!
