Boot to the head!
Oct. 2nd, 2006 02:54 pmThere are certain things that LJ'ers post about, or certain ways of posting that make me want to drop people from my friends list. Below is a list of things that bug me enough to consider dropping an LJ friend. Please note that this post is not directed at anyone in particular, and if you do one of the things below, it probably doesn't matter that much, because it's a matter of *degree* on a lot of these. Plus, you may get major cool points for something else you post about, and in my mind, that makes up for the minor irritations.
1. The majority of one's posts are lyrics, without any explanation about what those lyrics mean to that person or why one is posting them. Double-negative points if one always does that without using an LJ cut. Again, this is a matter of degree-- if you do it once every other month, not a big deal, but if that's 90 percent of what you post... sorry, that's a yawn-maker for me.
2. The majority of one's posts are angry, negative, or emo. Sure, we all need a place to vent, and LJ is as good as any. But constant negativity, either from real-life or LJ friends is wearing. I'm willing to listen to your vents and sadnesses if you're going through a rough patch, but if you've been on my FL for 2 years and 90 percent of your posts are angry or depressed, it gets to be a bit much.

And on the positive note, the things that keep me wanting to read your journal:
1. You post about problems in your life but also about the joys and triumphs. You are a survivor and not a victim.
2. You post about controversial subjects in a thoughtful and compassionate way.
3. Your enthusiasm for your hobbies, interests, and life in general shines from your posts.
4. When you post about relationship problems with friends, relatives and spouses, you do it in a discreet and compassionate way.
5. You post lovely photos behind an LJ-cut, and when you post lyrics, you explain what they mean to you or why you particularly like them.
6. In general, your posts make me think!
