I went to court today to be part of a pool of prospective jurors, and got picked for a trial coming up next week.

I thought it was interesting that our written summons to be on the panel of jurors specified "conservative dress" and I think it even said something specific about wearing jeans, but maybe not. Some people either didn't read it or had interesting interpretations of "conservative." A few women wore jeans, but mostly men were the offenders, like the young white dude with the tattoo on the back of his neck who looked like a Fubu store had exploded all over him. Or the chubby middle aged guy who wore khaki shorts and sandals with white socks. Or the young, pudgy gamer-anime-geek who wore a T-shirt with a hole the size of a quarter that showed off a patch of his white belly. What an odd group.

  1. bad movies:
I love to MST3K awful movies. I also like weird, underappreciated B-movies.
  2. comparative religion:
I studied the Bible extensively as a teen, have taken classes and self-taugh myself more about Islam, know a bit about a variety of pagan religions from Asatru to Wicca to Santeria, and enjoy mythology from around the world.
  3. ethical slut:
Self-explanatory, I'd think. Everyone knows, nobody lies; it's really that simple.
  4. fitness without dieting:
Yeah, you've heard me go on about this enough lately.
  5. hot tubs:
I once went outdoor hot-tubbing with 6 of my coven members in the early 90s when it was around 0 degrees F. I'd go more often if it wasn't so expensive.
  6. libraries:
I've been a paid worker at two and have volunteered at others. I was a Friend of the Ypsilanti Public Library for over a year and volunteered in the used book shop. My first real paid job besides babysitting was as a library page, making $2.85/hr, in the U.P. of Michigan.
  7. neal stephenson:
    J. and I read "Diamond Age" first, and really enjoyed it. Since then, have also read "Snowcrash," "Cryptonomicon," and "Zodiac," and have enjoyed them all.
  8. pro-choice:
Un-abashedly pro-choice. I was a pro-lifer in my teens, but hearing the stories of other women close to me who have agonized with the decision to abort or not has turned me into a pretty rabid pro-choicer.
  9. scrabble:
I'm pretty competitive, but not as good as I wish I was. I'm stubborn about going for the higher point play if it involves what my husband J. calls "Stupid Scrabble words" like "qat".
  10. vegetarian cooking:
I made a soup of leeks, chick peas and potatoes for dinner, along with grilled cheese sandwiches (multi-grain bread and swiss cheese) for dinner tonight.
