We have had several friends who make their own homemade mead, and we once made apple wine with some friends. But this is the first time we've made our own homemade mead. Some friends of ours walked us through the process and helped out with some starter supplies. It's been brewing for about 8 months, and we finally bottled it and sampled it today when our friends R&M came over.
It's only about 6.5 percent alcohol by volume, which is low (you can typically expect 10-13 percent like other wines, and we expected it to be high based on the volume of honey we used). However, it tastes quite good and smooth. We added some mulling spices to the mix (cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, cardamom, etc.), and that came through nicely. Not bad for our first batch.
