I didn't get the job as a book editor for the non-profit. Almost six weeks after interviewing, I finally got a rejection letter. I was a bit bummed, but not really surprised. I was fantasizing that I'd get it, so I'd have a good reason for turning down the newspaper job I'm interviewing for tomorrow, should they offer it to me.

The newspaper job is at a daily, which is a step up from working at a weekly, but I'd have to start all over again on the bottom rung as a general assignment reporter. The hours are 2 to 11 p.m. Mon-Thurs and noon to 8 p.m. Saturday, with Friday/Sunday split days off. And it's more than an hour commute, unless we sold the house and moved closer. And, even if they want to hire me, I doubt they're going to offer me the same salary or better than what I was making. I'm anticipating being offered a few thousand less than what I was making. But, we need health benefits.

Bleh.
