"Radical militant librarians"

Apparently, the FBI isn't a big fan of some of my favorite people.

From an FBI email obtained through the Freedom of Information Act: "The inability of FBI investigators to use this seemingly effective tool has had a direct and clearly adverse impact on our terrorism cases. While radical militant librarians kick us around, true terrorists benefit from OIPR's failure to let us use the tools given to us."

Hurrah for radical militant librarians! I propose a motto to unify and inspire them:
"You can have my records when you pry them from my cold dead fingers."

Radical librarians rule. I'm sure there are a bunch of conservative ones that just roll over for any authority figure, though.

Although I would love to ensure the library I go to respects privacy, I fear getting slapped for asking the librarian, "Do you roll over for any authority figure?"

Heh.

You'd have to be sure to ask the question while wearing a uniform of some kind, though. ;)

Yeah, I heard part of that segment this morning, I think.

An almost startling number of my friends are librarians ;) , and especially since 9/11/01 I've become aware of just how vital a role they play in safeguarding freedom of speech. Thankfully there are "radical militant" organizations like the ALA (http://www.ala.org/ala/issues/takeaction/takeaction.htm) out there, working hard to preserve our privacy.

Yep, I love librarians. J. and I have worked and/or volunteered in several and we have had several librarian friends over the years.

I consider them honorable Defenders of the First Amendment.

hah! I just realized I typoed. We've worked and volunteered in LIBRARIES, not in librarians... although...
