Holy crap! Why don't I know about this already?

I just ran across a link to this type of permanent, non-hormonal birth control for women. Why haven't I heard of this before?

It's still rare and difficult to obtain. My partner Shelly has been trying to find a hospital that will perform the Essure procedure, but so far there are no doctors anywhere in the Tampa Bay area who are trained in the procedure, and no hospitals or clinics are offering it.

Unless tubal ligation or vasectomy are done wrong, they ARE 100% effective. This one sounds a little less reliable. And, as they state, it's also new. They haven't had time to either perfect the process or advertise much I suspect.

They give comparison rates, and the effectiveness rate is almost identical to vasectomy/tubal ligation, though. The only reason it's not 100 percent is the chance the inserts aren't placed correctly, but you'd have a less than 100 percent rate for an incorrectly performed vasectomy/tubal ligation, too.

It is new, but I'm generally frustrated with how little information there is about new BC methods and the lack of funding for options for male BC.
