Desire

I've been thinking about the word "desire."

It feels good to be desired, doesn't it?

Yes it does.

Now that that's settled, next question.

What's the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?

Tea. An unladen swallow of tea. No sugar, you see.

Well I would have said 11 meters per second as shown here, but if that is the question I will say zero. Now a question for you. What is the capital of Assyria?

The A. As for the capitOl, they kept changing it.

You are too clever to fall into my traps.

Depends. Desired in that sexy romantic way, or desired in that "creepy obsessed stalker" way?

I'd say it feels good to be desired by someone who sees you for who you are, ad kind of yucky to be desired by someone who sees only his own projection of you, or sees you for what you represent to him. The desire by itself isn't what feels good; it's the things that underlie the desire that really do it, y'know?

Sure, I get what you're saying. I kind of read all that into that into the phrase "desiring someone." Desiring you for you, indeed.

I also differentiate it from "needing" someone. I had an ex who kept telling me he "needed" me and I told him I'd rather that he "wanted" me. Feeling needed can be flattering if you're young, naive, and have a Savior complex, but feeling wanted and desired is so much better.

Well, speaking from my cubicle this morning, I could skip my boss desiring me to take care of a shitload of work. :D

Well, s/he desires the work, not you, silly man.

Damn! Good point. I'm such a silly man.
