I'm feeling old and boring.
I've always said only boring people get bored. And I think my sense of ennui is probably related to the fact that I've become boring. I'm all about work-eat-sleep and do it again.
I'd like to go out and do fun things, but I suspect my idea of fun things don't always match up with other folks' ideas about this. I'm contrary and ornery. I really want to learn something new, do something new- listen to new music, pick up a new skill, create something. Not sure what.
Perhaps, from this life-angst, something wonderful will be born. I hope so.

When we were growing up, we had eight channels to choose from2, no video games, and no internet. If there wasn't anything to watch on TV; read a book or go outside were pretty much the only options3.
Now that we are older, I think we get bored because we've done that before and we want something new to challenge us; we don't just want something to keep us occupied, we want something engaging. We don't want something to just fill our time, we want something more meaningful.
1Well, one of them, anyway.
2Eleven, if reception was good.
3I frequently did both.

Ack! Then I think "OMG I sound like an old grandma." Except, my grandma is really cool. And there's nothing wrong with knitting or liking tea or conversation or any of that. I had to remind myself that I don't need to be out at a bar or dancing or going to concerts or whatever to be a fun & interesting person. I just need to surround myself with other people who find similar things interesting.
Does a Scrabble party sound like fun to you? Better yet, a Scrabble Party Potluck? Well, it does to me and I'm sure some of my friends--maybe we should all get together and be old and boring together :)!
Or we could teach you how to knit? It's super fun.

Hopefully something will spark your interest and you'll have the time to pursue it. Maybe you just need a little break to be bored/boring and then you'll bounce back when you're ready.

Yes, I think it's less that I'm bored than that I want a challenge.

My mom taught me to knit a few times, but if I put it down for any amount of time, I forget and have to re-learn. I tend to bite my nails, and doing something crafty with my hands could help with that, though.
You nailed another issue on the head for me- I do want to be fun and do stuff and be social, but I just really am not about clubbing and late nights anymore. My idea of fun has changed a lot, and I don't need to apologize for that. I just need to find ways to have my kind of fun with my kind of people...
