I had a co-worker who was THRILLED to be diagnosed with hypothyroidism. She celebrated all day. It gave her an excuse for having gained some weight since high school. She started taking all kinds of medicines (and rejoiced in listing them off for us) and then three months later got pregnant, even while she complained that her medicine had her totally "out of whack all the time."
Isn't this one of the most difficult conditions to manage, along with diabetes? My mother has both, and I wish she paid more attention to her health. My sympathy - it must be terrible to know that you're sort of "broken" for the foreseeable future.
